Internet Explorer Mode on Microsoft Edge

Internet Explorer has been around since 25 years ago and refused to die until a few days ago, Microsoft has finally announced that Internet Explorer application on Windows 10 will be officially retired on 15 June 2022. As reported by https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2021/05/20/microsoft-ie-internet-explorer-windows-web-browser-retired-edge/5166225001/

But what if you still have to access the application that require Internet Explorer?

How to activated Internet Explorer Mode on Microsoft Edge?

Don’t worry, the new browser from Microsoft is Microsoft Edge has a feature to activate Internet Explorer Mode on Microsoft Edge.

The step to activated this feature as follows :

Open Microsoft Edge Browser
Click “settings” on Microsoft Edge menu settings as screenshot below :

On Settings page, choose “Default Browser” menu and turn on “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer Mode”

After you have activated the IE Mode, you can browse the URL and activated the mode. To run it, choose “More Tools” – “Reload in Internet Explorer Mode”, see below screenshot :

Next you can open the website or web application that require Internet Explorer running on Microsoft Edge without you have to open Internet Explorer browser software. The example below, I can open CCTV application using Microsoft Edge :

What if the “Allow Sites to to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” is missing?

But what if you find out the option “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer Mode” is missing? Like I found on my Microsoft Edge browser, see the screenshot below :

This is usually happened if Microsoft Edge browser running under managed by Organization. It caused because your Windows 10 has already joined domain. To resolve this issue, you have to activated Microsoft Edge Policy Template so that the options can be shown on Group Policy Editor on Windows 10

Please follow these steps below :

Download the newest Microsoft Edge Policy Template at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download
Choose the newest version of Microsoft Edge and download the file.
Extract MicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplates.cab file included MicrosoftEdgePolicyTemplates.zip file
Browse extracted folder, find folder “windows\admx”
Copy files msedge.admx and msedgeupdate.admx to folder “c:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions”
Browse extracted folder, find folder “admx”, inside folder “admx”, find and open folder “en-us”
Copy files msedge.adml and msedgeupdate.adml to folder “C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\en-US”
After finished, it will be shown “Microsoft Edge” on Group Policies.

Then you can activated the policy, follow these steps below :

Configure Allow Internet Explorer mode testing on Group Policy Editor — Set Enabled on “Allow Internet Explorer mode testing”

Configure Internet Explorer integration on Group Policy Editor — Set Enabled on “Configure Internet Explorer integration”

If you have follow those above steps, you should can activated Internet Explorer Mode on three dots menu -> More Tools -> Open Sites in Internet Explorer Mode.

You can review Microsoft Edge settings by open URL edge//:policy in Microsoft Edge address bar. See screenshot below :

Dua penyihir Steve Jobs & Bill Gates dan sosok setelah mereka

Mungkin di antara kita masih ingat ketika Bill Gates secara perlahan mundur dari CEO Microsoft namun beliau masih memegang Chief Software Architect pada tahun 2000 hingga puncaknya pada tahun 2008 Bill Gates benar-benar mundur sama sekali dari Microsoft untuk secara full time bekerja di lembaga sosial yang dimilikinya yang bernama Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Sejak itulah kita lebih banyak menyaksikan Steve Ballmer CEO Microsoft pengganti Bill Gates kerap kali tampil dalam setiap peluncuran product Microsoft. Sedangkan Sang founder Bill Gates sudah jarang bahkan hampir tidak pernah lagi tampil pada setiap peluncuran product Microsoft.

Microsoft akan beli Yahoo!

Jika headline di atas terjadi. Ini merupakan merger terbesar antara 2 perusahaan raksasa tekhnologi terbesar. Microsoft dikenal sebagai penguasa sistem operasi di dunia melalui produk Microsoft Windows sedangkan aplikasi internet Yahoo! sangat dikenal oleh dunia maya melalui di antaranya Yahoo Mail dan Yahoo Messanger. Kejadian ini mengingatkan saya dengan Sampoerna yang ketika itu dibeli oleh Philip Morris, harganya juga sangat fantastis kalau tidak salah sekitar Rp. 10,000 per lembar sahamnya (padahal harga saham Sampoerna waktu itu masih sekitar Rp 6,000).

Nah harga akuisisi yang ditawarkan oleh Microsoft juga teramat sangat fantastis sekitar USD 44,6 Milliar dan juga kepemilikan saham. Coba saja anda hitung dalam bentuk rupiah USD 44,6 Milliar dikali Rp 9300 (kira-kira kurs sekarang) menjadi Rp. 414,780,000,000,000 (sekitar 414 Triliun kalau tidak salah). Suatu angka yang luar biasa besar, rasa-rasanya jumlahnya melebihi total cadangan devisa negara Indonesia.

Jika Sampoerna ketika itu dibeli dalam keadaan untung sebaliknya seperti yang dikutip dari detik, bahwa pembelian ini disebabkan karena harga saham Yahoo jatuh terus selama 2 tahun belakangan ini hingga 44% (US$ 19,18) alias Yahoo sedang mengalami kerugian. Menyusul merebaknya kabar tentang rencana pembelian Yahoo maka hal ini membuat saham Yahoo melonjak drastis menjadi 48% (US$ 28,35). Penggabungan Yahoo ke Microsoft diharapkan akan mampu melawan Google yang saat ini mendominasi internet.

Tetapi ada pertanyaan besar yang masih menjadi misteri oleh kalangan pengamat TI yaitu bagaimana menggabungkan 2 brand terkenal? Bagaimana menggabungkan MSN dan Yahoo Messanger misalnya? Bagaimana menggabungkan Hotmail dan Yahoo Mail? Jika masing-masing menggunakan brand yang sama dengan strategi seperti saat ini, saya rasa penggabungan seperti ini menjadi ‘mubazir’ karena akan membingungkan pelanggan.

Karena semua ini baru rencana, so lebih baik kita lihat saja nanti…..

Microsoft Silverlight Vs Adobe Flash Player

Nampaknya Adobe Flash Player bukan lagi satu-satunya pemain RIA (Rich Internet Application) di dunia maya karena Microsoft pada awal bulan September yang lalu baru-baru ini meluncurkan RIA yang bernama Silverlight.

Sepengalaman saya ketika 5-6 tahun yang lalu. RIA hanya menawarkan animation dan web interactive yang sangat sederhana sebagai pelengkap HTML dan Client Scripting traditional yang sangat terbatas pada waktu itu. Macromedia Flash 2.0 (sekarang Adobe Flash Player 9.0 setelah Macromedia dibeli oleh Adobe) merupakan RIA pertama yang diperkenalkan oleh web user. Sedangkan untuk video playback web user masih menggunakan plug in dari Real Player, Quick Time ataupun Windows Media Player.
